Township Departments
Assessor
The Assessor is responsible for determining the assessed value of all real and personal property within the township for tax purposes. Assessments are conducted in accordance with Michigan law and the State Tax Commission guidelines.

Cemetery
Norwich Township maintains the township cemetery located at 6481 North Cypress Avenue, Big Rapids, MI. The Cemetery Manager oversees burial arrangements, lot sales, and maintenance of cemetery grounds.

Township Clerk
The Township Clerk maintains official township records, oversees elections, serves as FOIA Coordinator, and provides notary services. The Clerk records meeting minutes and manages official correspondence.

Township Treasurer
The Township Treasurer is responsible for the receipt, disbursement, and accounting of all township funds. The Treasurer collects property taxes and maintains financial records for the township.

Zoning
The Zoning Department administers the township zoning ordinance to guide land use, protect property values, and preserve the rural character of the community. The Zoning Administrator reviews permit applications and enforces the ordinance.

Boards & Commissions
Norwich Township is served by several appointed boards and commissions that assist in local governance.
Board of Review
Meets in March, July, and December to hear property assessment appeals from township residents. Contact the Township Clerk for meeting dates and times.
Planning Commission
Reviews and makes recommendations on zoning amendments, special use permits, and the township Master Plan. Meets the first Wednesday of every other month at 7:00 p.m. Upcoming meetings: August 5, October 7, and December 2, 2026. Notice of special meetings will be posted on this website.
Zoning Board of Appeals
Hears appeals of zoning decisions and requests for variances from the zoning ordinance. Meets the third Wednesday of April and October. Special meetings are held as needed.
